Upper Arkansas Valley: 799 acre geothermal lease to be on BLM auction February 11

A picture named geothermalplant.jpg

From the Associated Press via The Denver Post:

A 799-acre parcel with subsurface federal mineral rights is expected to be offered for geothermal development in Chaffee County, west of Buena Vista. The parcel had been held back from the last sale in November. It would be the first [oil and gas] auction to include geothermal leasing [in Colorado].

More geothermal coverage here.

  1. This offering is NOT welcomed by a large number of people who live here. It could very well disfigure a premier recreational area of Chaffee County. According to figures produced by both the USGS and BLM, the contribution geothermal energy has to make to Colorado is, unfortunately, insignificant. I and others like me strongly contest the decision of the BLM to designate this parcel as open to industrialization. You can learn more on the web site. This risks much for potentially very little.
