Two wastewater spills totalling nearly 250,000 gallons occurred Tuesday [October 13, 2026] at Pueblo West Metropolitan District’s treatment facility. Both leaks happened during work by contractors to upgrade the district’s ultra-violet disinfection system according to a written release. The bypass system failures involved wastewater at different levels of treatment and disinfection. Water quality testing is underway for Wild Horse Creek and Pest House Gulch, the two tributaries of the Arkansas River affected by the pair of accidental discharges.
